The first is another Three Kings’ Procession, whose organisation we have traditionally supported and to which we warmly invite you. The Three Kings’ Procession is a colourful parade through the city which this year, unlike in previous years, will begin in front of our MDK and end at the Town Hall with our friends just across the border, in Görlitz.
Departure on 6 January at 1 p.m. Procession route: the square in front of the Municipal Cultural Centre in Zgorzelec – Wolności Street – Piłsudskiego Street – Daszyńskiego Street – Old Town Bridge – and then along Nyska Street to Görlitz Town Hall. We invite entire families.
We are counting strongly on the participation of families with children, seniors and, in general, everyone on Sunday. On 10 January, Zgorzelec, and we along with it, will once again play for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. As usual, our westernmost Polish finale will take place at CHR Plaza. The event starts at 2 p.m. The programme includes, among other things, artistic performances by children and young people, as well as auctions of items donated for the orchestra’s fund-raising auctions. By the way, we are waiting for more items, and we warmly thank those who have already donated something. In the coming days, we will prepare and publish a list of the items that can be auctioned, so that everyone can familiarise themselves with it and prepare their wallets accordingly :)
Several interesting events will also take place at MDK itself this week. A new film entering the programme of our PozaNova cinema this week is sure to be an interesting option. It is Hanna Polak’s documentary „The Kindness of Strangers”. Reviews describe it as: „An incredible coming-of-age story – Boyhood from a Moscow rubbish dump” and „Hanna Polak’s directorial triumph and cinematographic masterpiece”. This is how, among others, “Newsweek USA” and “Screen Daily” write about the film. We meet Julka, the film’s main character, when she is 10 years old. Together with her loved ones, she lives at Swałka, a gigantic rubbish dump near Moscow. Over the next 14 years, together with director Hanna Polak, we follow the story of the most important events in Julka’s life: her first cigarette, first love and an unplanned pregnancy. The film will be shown from Friday, 8 January. Screenings begin at 6:01 p.m., and weekend tickets cost PLN 12 or 14.
This week, our cinema will also host further meetings with students from schools in Zgorzelec and Zgorzelec County, attending screenings as part of the New Horizons of Film Education project (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).
On Thursday, for the first time this year, students of the Cross-Border University of the Third Age will meet under the green dome. Unfortunately, we do not yet know the topic of the meeting. The university is scheduled here at 11 a.m.
Saturday, 9 January, also promises to be interesting. Another, already the second, casting session will take place at our venue as part of the project „Talented 2016 – Your Chance for Success”, carried out by the Zinfo.pl portal. If anyone still does not know what it is, here is the shortest explanation: it is our local Zgorzelec talent show, in which you can win PLN 5,000! You only have to dance, sing, recite, perform a magic trick... In short, present yourself as well and advantageously as possible to the competition jury. The auditions begin at 10 a.m.; details can be found on the organiser’s website.
You are welcome.
Janusz Pawul, MDK Zgorzelec
