This will be the strongest tournament in its history. Ten players from Belarus, Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland will compete, including three grandmasters. The tournament’s highest-rated player is a mere 17-year-old chess player from Germany—grandmaster Aleksander Donchenko. Despite his young age, he possesses great skills and will certainly compete for victory. Belarusian grandmaster Kiril Stupak is also likely to join the battle. The 25-year-old has already represented his country at chess Olympiads three times. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Marcel Kanarek from Koszalin will try to earn the final norm he needs for the grandmaster title. He has already won a silver medal at the World Championship.
The Miedź Legnica Chess Club will be represented by international masters Marcin Sieciechowicz and Pavel Simacek, as well as Miedź academy graduate Piotr Sabuk. The Legnica team’s task will be to compete for grandmaster and international master norms, as well as prepare for next year’s start in the Ekstraliga.
The competition will be held at Letia Business Center, every day from 3:30 p.m. Admission is free. Details of the tournament and an online broadcast of the games can be found at www.pucharwojewody.legnica.pl.
