It was grown by Danuta Smolna, the village head of Stara Rudna. The giant pumpkin outclassed the competition, but the vegetable brought by Beata Dutka from Rynarcice also had considerable dimensions – 36.15 kg.
Danuta Smolna admits that every year she grows enormous pumpkins, using seeds of a special variety produced by the Wrocław Botanical Garden. The vegetable needs huge amounts of water and soil rich in nutrients. It grows excellently on compost heaps and in sunny places.
The owner of the largest pumpkin received an invitation as a prize for a free stay for two people at a hotel in Szklarska Poręba, on any date.
