Dariusz Mucha, a Bolesławiec City Council member from 1998 to 2002, has written and published a book about local government in Bolesławiec. Many residents of Bolesławiec will find their names in this publication. Some will feel distinguished, while others may resent the author for bringing certain matters to light. “Its value lies not only in the recent history of local government and self-government in Bolesławiec—a compendium of knowledge about all local-government terms of office since the political transformation, packed with dates, facts and names—but also, and perhaps above all, in the passion with which the author uncovers the good and bad sides of local democracy,” writes the book’s reviewer, Agnieszka Szydłowska-Szczecińska.
“When I began describing sixteen years of self-government in our city, I turned to people who had played a significant role during that period, asking them to share their experiences. [...] I state with sadness and disgust that no one responded to my request,” Dariusz Mucha writes in his book.
The book is already available for purchase in Bolesławiec bookshops.
