The population that settled in Lower Silesia from 1945 onwards was very diverse. Catholics of Polish nationality from various regions of pre-war Poland predominated, but Jews, Ukrainians and even Greeks also arrived in the area. A small group of the former population (Germans and people considered to be of Polish origin) also remained.
The new residents differed both in their wartime experiences and in the motives that prompted them to come west.
The lecture by Dr Habil. Małgorzata Ruchniewicz, devoted to the issue of post-war settlement in Lower Silesia, will take place on Friday, 16 October, at 6:00 p.m., at the Municipal Cultural Centre in Zgorzelec.
