In the evening, a man went to a shop in his town (Bolesławiec County) to buy cigarettes. After he bought a pack, two men approached him. They were drunk and may have wanted a cigarette. An exchange of words took place between the law office’s client and the men. The intoxicated men became aggressive, attacked their victim, began pushing and pulling him, and then severely beat him. The police intervened.
“We handle several assault cases,” says Arkadiusz Krzemiński. “They are often assaults resulting from long-standing grudges, sometimes dating back to primary school. After drinking a few beers or a substantial amount of alcohol, someone remembers that they had some conflict at school with a person who is now an adult and decides to resolve it with their fists in the present,” the lawyer adds.
The assaulted man won the criminal case, and a friend recommended Arkadiusz Krzemiński’s law office, which he contacted to pursue compensation and damages for the assault. The matter was settled amicably. After sobering up, the men realized what they had done and the damage they had caused. As a result of the settlement, the Verius Law Office’s client received a total of several dozen thousand złotys from the assailants. Most importantly, the settlement did not include a waiver of future claims.
What should you do if you are assaulted?
In such situations, the biggest problem is usually identifying the perpetrator. We should immediately notify the police and/or call an ambulance if necessary, and then report the crime. Medical documentation is also crucial here, preferably prepared by a forensic physician.
