On Tuesday, young people at the Bolesławiec market square encouraged residents of our city to take part in the local elections. Representatives of the Federation of Young Social Democrats, the Association of Young Democrats, Stowarzyszenie Ziemia Bolesławiecka and Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe handed out leaflets encouraging active participation in the life of the local community.
The “You Have a Voice, You Have a Choice” campaign was initiated by the “Batory Foundation” and the “School for Leaders Association.” Young people from Bolesławiec decided that, together and beyond political divisions, they would encourage people to participate in the elections. We asked representatives of Bolesławiec’s youth groups for a brief comment on the campaign itself.
Arkadiusz Krzemiński (Ziemia Bolesławiecka): “The Bolesławiec City Council could use some rejuvenation. It lacks fresh blood. The 21 councillors serving in the current term are more than 1,100 years old in total. There is no one under thirty. It is certainly worth benefiting from the knowledge of experienced people, but we are clearly missing there.”
Wojciech Kasprzyk (Association of Young Democrats): “We are here to make people aware that their single vote can decide the result. I address these words especially to young people, as well as adults. Let us not allow others to decide for us.”
Daniel Biernat (Federation of Young Social Democrats): “It is not about having only young people sit on the city council. My mother always tells me that the most valuable thing is a combination of young hands and grey hair...”
Mirosław Kowara (Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe): “We would like to encourage everyone to cast their valuable vote for us young people as well. We are not interested in who belonged to the PZPR and who belonged to ‘Solidarity.’ We can reach an agreement.”
