In Poreč, Croatia, where the Legnica player travelled thanks to the support of KGHM Polska Miedź, as many as 850 competitors are taking part. In Ania’s under-16 group, 52 players representing a very high sporting level are competing.
– It is enough to say that her opponent in the first round, despite being only 16, already represents the senior national team at chess Olympiads – emphasises Piotr Kowalak, director of KS Miedź Legnica. He adds: – A place in the top ten for the Miedź player would certainly be a huge success. The championships are being played over nine rounds and will conclude on 30 September.
