PKP Intercity has finally—after a six-year break—given in to the demands of the Committee and local authorities and will launch, from 13 December 2015, the Express Intercity “Łużyce” train running between Zgorzelec Miasto and Warszawa Wschodnia.

The Committee had been seeking this connection for more than six years, with varying results. The only inconvenience facing Zgorzelec residents is the lack of electric traction on the Zgorzelec–Węgliniec section, which is why replacement bus transport will operate on this section.

At Zgorzelec Miasto station, passengers will be able to board a bus and transfer to the train carriages at Węgliniec station. The train to Warsaw will leave Zgorzelec after 6:00 a.m., and on the return journey it will arrive at around 9:00 p.m. It will run to Warsaw every day except Saturdays, while the train from Warsaw will depart every day except Fridays.

“This is not the end of our efforts to restore rail connections on the Wrocław–Zgorzelec line,” announces Grzegorz Oleś, president of the Committee for the Defense of Lower Silesian Railway Lines. “The Committee will renew its efforts to connect Zgorzelec with Przemyśl via Kraków and with the Tri-City via Poznań. We will also strive to ensure that the train to Warsaw operates without any time restrictions—also on Fridays from Warsaw and Saturdays from Zgorzelec.”
