In their opening match of the IV league’s Lower Silesian competition, BKS Bolesławiec lost away to Chrobry II Głogów 0:2 (0:1). Despite the unfavorable result, our boys performed very well and made life difficult for the hosts.
Despite the intense heat, both teams put on an interesting spectacle, and the match was enjoyable to watch. Before the game, Chrobry II Głogów were considered clear favorites, and although the result was unfavorable for BKS Bolesławiec, we left a positive impression.
The opening stages belonged to BKS Bolesławiec. Our boys played boldly and often ventured toward Chrobry II Głogów’s goal. Sharp crosses from the left into Chrobry’s penalty area created considerable danger and almost brought us a goal. Furmanek was just centimeters away from turning one such cross into a goal. A moment later, Piekarz headed the ball, but it was collected by the hosts’ goalkeeper. Unfortunately for BKS, from the 25th minute Chrobry II Głogów began to take control and create chances. Fortunately, Bochnia was in good form in our goal that day and saved us with several interventions.
The hosts’ pressure paid off in the 40th minute. Following a cross from the left side of the pitch, Rybak sent the ball into our net and Chrobry took a 1:0 lead. BKS Bolesławiec could still have equalized before halftime. In the 44th minute, Długosz made an excellent run on the left, maneuvered past a defender and found himself one-on-one with the hosts’ goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the BKS midfielder’s powerful shot was saved by Szymański, and we went into the break trailing 0:1.
The second half began much like the first. In the 47th minute, Janczyszyn launched an excellent attack, but the Chrobry II Głogów goalkeeper again made a good save. The 61st minute brought an incident that determined the course of the rest of the match. Following a shoulder-to-shoulder collision, the hosts’ striker fell in the penalty area, and the referee awarded Chrobry a penalty. To make matters worse, he showed Piekarz a red card, meaning we had to play with ten men until the final whistle.
Fortunately, in good form that day, Bochnia read the taker’s intentions and saved the penalty. Despite being reduced to ten men, BKS Bolesławiec continued to play bravely, and the absence of one player was not apparent on the pitch. In the 69th minute, it should have been 1:1. Wojciechowski brilliantly dribbled past three defenders and went one-on-one with Chrobry’s goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the BKS striker’s shot went over the hosts’ goal, and we were left disappointed. Sadly, the closer it got to the end of Sunday’s match, the greater the hosts’ advantage became. In the 77th minute, following a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, the ball found its way into our net for the second time and Chrobry led 2:0. This time, Kozak got on the scoresheet. The score did not change again, and BKS Bolesławiec’s defeat became a fact.
Despite the defeat to Chrobry II Głogów, our team’s performance was enjoyable to watch. At times, we were able to impose our style on the hosts, and with a little luck the result could have been different. Although the hosts were the better side, they had to work very hard to beat our team. This is a good sign for us and offers hope ahead of the coming matches. Next weekend, Piast Nowa Ruda will visit Spółdzielcza (Saturday, 6:00 p.m.).
