A tender has been announced for the redevelopment and adaptation of the building. “The creation of this Center,” says Marcin Zawiła, President of Jelenia Góra, “is primarily intended to provide care for people affected by illnesses, but it will also bring relief to their families, who simply have to function while also having had to care for their relatives with exceptional diligence, looking after them virtually nonstop. While parents of ill children have some time for themselves when their children attend a special school, the problem becomes serious once they reach the age of leaving school. And the incidence of mental illnesses that limit the ability to live independently is not decreasing at all, so this Center, which will serve approximately 30 adults, is very much needed.”

However, some time will pass before the facility accepts its first residents; during the initial stage of the work, the building will have to be adapted to its new purposes.

Some of the work was carried out last year, including replacing the roof, completing sheet-metal work and installing lightning protection. At present, however, demolition and general construction work is necessary, including the installation of a platform for people with disabilities, as well as plastering, painting, flooring installation and more.

We will return to this subject.
