Kamil Biczak (pictured on the right) is known to our Readers as the libero of BTS Elektros Bolesławiec. On 12 May, together with Romanem Kaczurowskim from Nowogrodziec (both are students at the University of Zielona Góra), he qualified for the semifinals of the Polish Academic Beach Volleyball Championships, which will take place at the turn of May and June.

“We did not expect to go to this tournament at all,” Kamil Biczak tells “ii”. Three teams from AWF Gorzów Wielkopolski, two from the University of Zielona Góra and two from PWSZ Sulechów took part in the competition.

The volleyball players competed using the Brazilian system. Kamil and Roman lost their first match to a pair from UZ. They then defeated two teams from Gorzów Wielkopolski and a duo from Sulechów. In the semifinals, they faced the team from Zielona Góra again. This time, they won after a close advantage battle.

In the final, they faced Gorzów’s best pair, consisting of: Krzysztof Baran and Paweł Sęk, players who compete for second-league clubs. Our local players lost to the team from Wielkopolska and finished second, thereby advancing to the semifinals of the Polish Academic Championships.

We asked Kamil Biczak whether he preferred playing on sand or on the court. “I like playing both here and there,” the volleyball player replied. “But lately, I think I have come to enjoy beach volleyball more. What is great is that the team’s success depends on you by 50%. And even if your teammate is having a bad day, you can still win the match on your own.”

Kamil and Roman had already played together many times (they even won tournaments, including in Świdnica and Wałbrzych). However, they took a break. “This year, we played together at this tournament for the first time,” Kamil laughs. “That explains the result of the first match. Then, from one match to the next, things got better and better.”

“Qualifying for the Polish Championships would be something wonderful. I think we are capable of it,” the volleyball player adds.
