Arado Rally / World of Tanks (1–3 May)

A dozen or so vehicles from the Second World War, paratroopers, more than 150 participants in historical uniforms, and a substantial amount of knowledge concerning not only the military history of Lower Silesia. The overall experience will be completed by a mobile station for the world-famous computer game World of Tanks.

In Jelenia Góra, we will meet with the reenactors four times:

  • 1 May – 9:30 p.m. – a re-enactment at Plac Ratuszowy
  • 2 May – 9:30 p.m. – reenactment at Plac Ratuszowy
  • 3 May – 10:00 – a historical town on Plac Ratuszowy / World of Tanks stations
  • 3 May – 2:00 p.m. – the reenactment “Ostatni kontratak” – the clearing behind the Municipal Police Headquarters at ul. Nowowiejskiej (in front of Pałac Paulinum)

Festiwal Muzyki Wiedeńskiej (May 1–3)

The first weekend of May also brings the oldest musical event organized by the Lower Silesian Philharmonic in Jelenia Góra, namely the Vienna Music Festival. Vienna and Austria are most often musically associated with the waltz, operetta, and music of the grandest scale. What is characteristic of the Austrian capital is that it combines works of almost cosmic dimensions, such as Mozart’s “Requiem,” with Lehár’s operettas. Somewhere in between, one can find splendid chamber music, which also spans the space between entertainment, accompaniment during a formal dinner, and a dramatic portrayal of human fate. These three strands have been present at the Vienna Music Festival almost from the beginning, and may they continue throughout every subsequent edition.

This year’s edition of the Festival, which will be held on 1–3 May 2015 at the Zdrojowy Theatre of Animation in Jelenia Góra-Cieplice, consists of three wonderful chamber-music concerts with highly meaningful titles: The Viennese Ball, Who Has Viennese Blood and Sounds of Emigration (concerts at 7:00 p.m.).

Japanese Culture Days (2–3 May)

The event will take place on May 2–3 and is combined with the 25th anniversary of the Polish Ju-Jitsu Academy, which, on the occasion of its anniversary, was also honored with organizing the 19th Polish Ju-Jitsu Academy Championships and the 19th Polish Pair Kata Championships.

The jubilee will begin with a ceremonial mounted samurai parade and a procession of clubs along the city’s main streets, starting at Plac Ratuszowy on May 2 at 11:00. Many attractions and accompanying events related to Japanese culture have been planned, and groups from various martial arts schools have announced their participation in the demonstrations: JuJitsu, Aikido, Iaido, Judo, Kyudo, Kendo, Karate and Ninjutsu. The international character of the event is evidenced by the participation of more than 150 competitors from Poland, Ireland, Germany, Canada, the Czech Republic and Sweden.

Constitution Day, 3 May

May 3 is above all an important national holiday—the 224th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of May 3. The official municipal celebrations will begin at 12:30 p.m. beneath the “Freedom and Independence” monument, in the square by the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, where, after the ceremonies, a Mass for the Homeland will be celebrated.

3rd Jelenia Góra Half Marathon / Jelenia Góra Ten-Kilometre Run (3 May)

The III Jelenia Góra Half Marathon is another edition of a competition for runners and, above all, a new format for events and celebrating one of the most important national holidays.

The races under the SUPERBIEG brand will take place in the Jelenia Góra Valley for the third time, and because of the route’s exceptional location, the competition is held under the slogan: A Race with a View of the Mountains!

The traditional start is at Plac Ratuszowy at 10:00, with the finish at the stadium on ul. Złotniczej. The half-marathon course is certified by the Polish Athletics Association. The organizer provides full course security and the necessary services for participants: changing rooms, drink stations along the course, and individual timekeeping.

The competition regulations, route plans and race registration are available at www.superbieg.pl
