On Thursday (23 April), representatives of the Bolesławiec Museum took part in a meeting of ceramics enthusiasts as part of the “Ceramic Thursdays” series organized by the Polish Ceramists’ Association at the “Praga” Cultural Promotion Centre in Warsaw. The meeting was initiated by the Association’s president, Dariusz Osiński.
Agata Bojanowska and Barbara Glinkowska delivered a presentation entitled “Not Just Stamps”, in which they outlined the history of Bolesławiec ceramics, focusing mainly on the results of the latest international scientific and research projects conducted by the Museum of Ceramics.
The presentation was accompanied by a multimedia presentation prepared by Krzysztof Rajczakowski. The guests also had the opportunity to watch films devoted to specific topics related to the history of Bolesławiec stoneware.
The museum staff also presented publications issued in recent years, which aroused great interest among the guests. Approximately 40 people took part in the meeting, including representatives of academic and artistic circles, archaeologists, historians, museum professionals and collectors. After the lecture, a lively discussion took place, covering both formal issues related to ceramics and the working methods and further research and exhibition plans of the Museum of Ceramics.
The idea of professional meetings for ceramists and people interested in the subject arose from the need to exchange information and integrate the community. Initially, the meetings, chaired by the Association’s president, Dariusz Osiński, were held in a tearoom on Bednarska Street in Warsaw, and their distinguishing feature was a brick lying on the table, on which participants signed their names. Over time, the ceramic Thursdays were formalized and now take place as lecture series at the “Praga” Cultural Promotion Centre.
