The roots of this now-endangered goat breed date back to the beginning of the 20th century, when Thuringian breeders crossed the Thuringian goat with the Swiss Toggenburg goat. The resulting crossbreed is a true all-rounder. These animals provide both milk and meat and are perfectly suited to maintaining overgrown areas.
In addition, Thuringian goats are very hardy and relatively resistant to adverse weather conditions. Breeding this goat breed at Naszym Zoo is the institution’s contribution to the protection of nature and species.
