The holidays are coming! And if anyone still doesn’t feel it, we invite you to join us. With the start of the new week, we have begun accepting artwork by children and parents for the 13th Family Easter Competition. The jury will assess all submitted works on Wednesday (25 March), and the very next day, on Thursday, they can be viewed in the MDK foyer. As always, the competition is organised by Primary School No. 2 with Integrated Classes, named after Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, in Zgorzelec.

Monday also gets our week off to a cinematic start – at 4:15 p.m. we are showing a special screening at our PozieNova cinema, ordered by the School and Educational Centre in Zgorzelec. We will not have open evening screenings until Friday, but on Friday and throughout the entire weekend we have a strong premiere on the screen. We will show Luc Jacquet’s documentary film “Once Upon a Forest” (“Once Upon a Forest”). Following his Oscar-winning, celebrated “March of the Penguins”, Luc Jacquet takes us on another fascinating journey into the natural world – this time deep into the mysterious and hitherto little-known rainforests of Peru and Gabon, recognised as the “green lungs” of our planet. This breathtaking film shows what a wonder of nature looks like! In our opinion, it is a must-see for everyone looking forward to rest and relaxation at the weekend. Its premiere took place on 6 March this year! Tickets cost PLN 14 and 12. The projector starts at 6:31 p.m..

On Wednesday, the first of several recitation competitions planned for March, April and May begins. At 10 a.m., middle-school students will be the first to take the stage, competing in the city-level qualifiers (although “competing” may be the wrong word) for the right to perform at the county level.

Also on Wednesday, attendees of the Cross-Border University of the Third Age will visit the green dome of MDK. At 11 a.m., a lecture on... breast cancer will begin. It will be delivered by physician Maciej Błaszczyński, head of the general and oncological surgery department at the John Paul II Multispecialist Hospital in Zgorzelec.

On Thursday, students from across Zgorzelec County will come to our MDK for the County Humanities Contest, organised annually by the Pedagogical Library. This year’s theme is “Life in the interwar period”. There will be some testing of pens, testing of minds and stage performances. The contest will occupy the entire Thursday morning. It starts at 9 a.m.

On Friday, we warmly invite you to the theatre performance “The Last Piece” by Bogusław Schaeffer. The performance begins at 6 p.m. and stars Grzegorz Matysik and Bogdan Słomiński. The play had its world premiere on 4 February 2014 at Teatr Powszechny in Warsaw, and its premiere on 7 February 2014 at Teatr Groteska in Kraków. “The Last Piece” is a comedy. It refers to the most important works in the author’s body of work, such as “Quartet” and “A Script for Three Actors”, which are connected with his views on art and theatre. Tickets are available in advance at MDK and before the performance. However, very few remain, so it is worth hurrying. They cost PLN 15.

On Saturday morning, beekeeping enthusiasts (Winnie-the-Pooh will unfortunately not be there) from the Upper Lusatian Beekeepers’ Association have arranged to meet at our centre. Everyone interested is welcome; the conference begins at 10 a.m.

That leaves Sunday, to which we also warmly invite you. At 5 p.m., we open a poetry salon. We encourage everyone who enjoys reading poems to come to MDK and read them to us. There will be plenty of young people, but we are also counting on older participants. It is hard for us to believe that you do not read poetry... So come along!
