The publication was named “The Best Catholic Book of 2014.” This is what reviewer Karolina Mucha wrote about Małgorzata Kupiszewska’s work:
Both the short texts by Małgorzata Kupiszewska, a Warsaw journalist and writer, and the accompanying reproductions of paintings revolve around the successive Stations of the Cross and meditations on the Rosary. Readers walk the Stations of the Cross three times, gazing at the stained-glass-like paintings of Franciszek Maśluszczak, the restrained yet intensely colorful works of Stanisław Rodziński, and the modern, surprising canvases of Wojciech Sadley. At the same time, they listen to Kupiszewska’s words, which contain prayers for those who need them (“In the Lenten Silence”), analyses of passages from Scripture (“Among the May Lilacs”), and, through literary allegories, direct readers’ attention to Polish saints (“In the Radiance of Rays”).
These reflections (like the pilgrim and Rosary meditations included on the following pages, accompanied by paintings by Agata Padoł-Ciechanowska) are, in the words of Archbishop Marian Jaworski, “insightful in many different ways.” More or less moving and original. But they play an important role. Addressing everyday matters, they help turn passive observers, who recite the names of the successive stations out of habit, into participants in the Stations of the Cross. Perhaps they will remind us that we are heading toward Golgotha not only during Lenten services, but at every moment of our lives?
The author will meet with the residents of Bolesławiec on Tuesday, 17 March at Galeria Format (Miejska Biblioteka Publiczna w Bolesławcu, ul. Sądowa). The event begins at 11:00. The meeting is held under the honorary patronage of Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman.
