Its aim is to draw public attention to the role of uniformed services in Poland and to society’s responsibility for the fate of the families of those who risk their lives for us in their daily work. The campaign was held under the honorary patronage of the Ombudsman for Children Marek Michalak.

– For the majority of Poles (90%), the word patriotism is understood in a traditional way: as fighting for one’s homeland and sacrificing oneself for it. In other words, in a way far removed from what contemporary life in Poland looks like, without wars and the need to undertake such actions. Despite the traditional understanding of patriotism, the understanding of who is currently a patriot has changed. They are not only those who fight for their homeland, but also those thanks to whom we live better and more safely: firefighters, police officers, soldiers and rescuers. They are the heroes of peacetime – says University of Warsaw professor Dominika Maison, responsible for carrying out the social research commissioned by the Dorastaj z Nami Foundation.

The Dorastaj z Nami Foundation was established in 2010 and supports the children of people who lost their lives or health while serving. – We support the educational process of the children and young people under our care, and in particular co-finance individual needs related to their intellectual development, education, upbringing and interests – explains Magdalena Pawlak, president of the Dorastaj z Nami Foundation. – We believe that people who heroically give their lives in the name of our safety deserve our respect and our responsibility towards the children they leave behind.

The campaign was launched on television, in the press and on the radio in February 2015. Representatives of the police, armed forces and fire service became involved in activities related to it.

The uniformed services encourage people to visit the campaign website: www.dorastajznami.org and to donate 1% of their tax to support the beneficiaries of the Dorastaj z Nami Foundation.
