The first were the lionhead rabbits, five of which were born. They were followed by the cow Gretel, who gave birth to a heifer named Elsa on the night from Sunday to Monday.
During the animal keepers’ morning rounds, the young heifer was already lying in the cattle enclosure, dried and fed by her mother. Elsa is a heifer of the Red Highland cattle breed, an endangered species whose origins date back to the time of the Celts.
In the coming days, offspring are expected, among others, in the families of Tibetan pigs and Cashmere goats.
