Officers of the Lower Silesian Customs Service searched a property in the Zgorzelec municipality and found nearly 520,000 illegal cigarettes. Cara, a dog trained to search for tobacco, indicated the places where the young homeowners stored the cigarettes. These included a vehicle repair pit in the garage and... the bed frame of the owners’ grandmother.
The market value of the illegal tobacco was nearly PLN 334,000.
It is worth adding that Lower Silesian customs officers regularly intercept consignments of contraband from across the eastern border. Last year, the Customs Service seized nearly 4 million illegal cigarettes and more than 32 tonnes of tobacco in our province.
