The incident occurred on Tuesday (3 February) on road 297 between Bolesławiec and Łąka. At around 8:00 a.m., a woman driving a Peugeot was travelling towards Łąka. According to the police’s preliminary findings, the 27-year-old resident of Bolesławiec failed to adjust her speed to the road conditions, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming Volkswagen. It was driven by a 47-year-old man, also a resident of Bolesławiec. The force of the impact was so great that the Volkswagen left the road and overturned. As a result of the collision, the woman in the Peugeot and the man in the Volkswagen were taken to hospital. The woman suffered pelvic and shoulder injuries. The man suffered a spinal injury.
An unmarked police car was travelling behind the Volkswagen. Seeing the road incident, the police officer stopped, and another car then hit the back of the police vehicle. Its 25-year-old driver, a resident of the Bolesławiec Rural Commune, was fined PLN 220. Road 297 was blocked for several hours.
