The accident occurred on October 24 of last year on Daszyńskiego Street in Mysłakowice. Grzegorz P., driving a Renault Laguna at an illegal, excessive and dangerous speed of no less than 123 km/h, failed to exercise particular caution and adjust his speed to the road conditions as he approached a bus bay and an intersection. As a result, he struck minor Paulina B.

while she was crossing the road.

P. did not stop to help the girl, but fled the scene. Paulina B. suffered very serious injuries that endangered her life.

Witnesses to the incident immediately called an ambulance, which took the injured girl to hospital, as well as the police.

Grzegorz P. hid from law enforcement authorities for three days, after which he reported to the Municipal Police Headquarters, where he was arrested. The driver did not admit to committing the alleged offense and explained that the incident had been caused by the injured girl’s behavior, as she had suddenly stepped out from behind the bus.

He also added that he had left the scene because of the behavior of people who were present and whom he feared.

However, an expert determined that it was the suspect’s excessive speed that created the dangerous situation. P. did not reduce his speed even though he was approaching the bus bay and intersection. He saw an MZK bus standing in the bay, yet failed to exercise caution.

At the prosecutor’s request, the court ordered the suspect’s pre-trial detention. The man, who had previously been convicted, now faces up to 12 years in prison.
