During a press conference, the contractor's representatives – site manager Mariusz Szczepaniak and project manager Michał Kubów – discussed the scope of the investment stages scheduled for completion this year.
The works will be carried out on the sections from Szkolna Street to Grabskiego Street and from Boiskowa Street to Borsucza Street. The first section (Szkolna–Grabskiego) has been divided into three stages:
- from Szkolna Street to the intersection with Andersa Street (work begins on 26 January 2015; planned duration – approximately 25 weeks)
- from the intersection with Andersa Street to the area of Primary School No. 10 (work begins on 1 August 2015; planned duration – approximately 20 weeks)
- from Primary School No. 10 to Grabskiego Street (work begins on 26 January 2015; planned duration – approximately 25 weeks).
The second section (Boiskowa–Borsucza) has been divided into two construction stages:
- from Boiskowa Street to Borsucza Street – left side (work began on 15 November 2014; planned duration is approximately 20 weeks)
- right side (work begins on 1 May; planned construction duration is approximately 12 weeks).
Due to the planned works, changes to traffic organisation will be introduced from 26 January this year and will remain in effect until the end of December 2015. Detours will run as follows: towards the city centre via Grabskiego, Złotoryjska and Muzealna streets, while from the city centre towards the bypass via Muzealna, Kościuszki and Grabskiego streets.
Bus stops towards the city centre from Jaworzyńska Street will be moved to Grabskiego and Wojska Polskiego streets, while stops towards the bypass will be moved to Kościuszki Street. The truck detour remains unchanged and runs via Zachodnia and Złotoryjska streets.
“We ask drivers and local residents to exercise particular caution and follow the temporary signage introduced for the duration of the renovation,” says Mariusz Szczepaniak. “We will make every effort to ensure that the works we are carrying out are as little disruptive to residents as possible. Once the reconstruction is completed, the roadway standard will improve significantly, which will increase safety in this area.”
The contractor informed residents of Jaworzyńska Street, property managers and businesses operating there about the scope of the investment and the changes being introduced.
The contract for the reconstruction of Jaworzyńska Street was signed at the end of February 2014. In July last year, the reconstruction of the intersection of Jaworzyńska Street with Muzealna, Skarbka and Gwarna streets, up to Szkolna Street, was completed. In December, the Grabskiego–Jaworzyńska intersection was opened to traffic.
“As part of the completed scope, we constructed approximately 4,600 m² of asphalt-concrete roadway (300 metres of road together with the intersection of Jaworzyńska and Skarbka streets) and approximately 1,800 m² of granite-sett roadway,” says Michał Kubów. “In addition, two bus bays, approximately half a kilometre of cycle paths and more than a kilometre of pavements were built. As part of the lighting works, we have so far laid more than 6,000 m of cable and installed 34 streetlights. We laid 3,600 m of power cable, constructed 270 m of utility duct and 380 m of LEGMAN network, and also laid approximately 5,600 linear metres of telecommunications networks. So far, we have completed nearly 1,200 m of water-supply, stormwater-sewer and gas networks, built 49 manholes and 24 inlets, as well as a huge stormwater pumping station.
“The reconstruction of Jaworzyńska Street that we are carrying out is a major investment,” says Witold Nietubyć, director of the engineering branch of Skanska. “On the section being modernised, we are simultaneously carrying out works in various fields, including roadworks, stormwater and sanitary sewerage, technical and telecommunications infrastructure, water-supply, gas and district-heating networks, traffic lights and road lighting. This requires a high level of planning and coordination of all works, as well as daily attention to reconciling the construction work with local vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
