The meeting took place at the Polish Olympic Committee Olympic Centre in Warsaw. Among those attending was the president of FAI (the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) John Grubbström.

This year, Poland will host the FAI Indoor Aerobatic Model Aircraft World Championships in Pruszków, the FAI Helicopter World Championships in Zielona Góra, and the 2nd Paramotor Slalom World Championships in Legnica, scheduled for the turn of June and July.

Legnica’s partners in organizing this prestigious event are the Polish Aeroclub, represented by Adam Paska, a board member and coach of the national PPG team, and the Falco Group Association.

Around one hundred pilot-competitors will come to the championships, while the city can expect a total of three hundred guests from at least seventeen countries around the world. The events will take place at the airport. Competitors will navigate slalom courses between special 12-metre-high pylons. One of them, covered with the city’s identifying symbols, was presented in Warsaw in front of the Olympic Centre.

“The event will be held in Poland because our country is a paramotoring powerhouse,” said Adam Paska. “At the previous championships in France, Poles won all the gold medals. More than 70 percent of wings for these flying machines are produced in Poland. Twelve thousand people in our country hold paragliding licences.”

“Why Legnica? We are an active and creative local government,” said Mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski. “A city of sport and recreation. Many residents of Legnica practise air sports. We have extensive experience organizing sporting events of global standing. We offer many tourist and historical attractions. We have an excellent hotel and catering base. We are happy to welcome foreign guests. We also see enormous promotional potential in organizing a prestigious championship.”

The organizers are preparing many attractions for the public, participants and city residents. These will include spectacular air and balloon shows, pyrotechnic displays and a microlight fair.
