There was no problem with the large animals—a camel is rather difficult to overlook. More difficult were the group of 46 budgerigars, the invertebrates, and the animals that were hibernating.
The Nasze Zoo team unanimously established that on January 1, 2015, there were 546 animals representing 107 different species in the zoological garden. That is 2 fewer species than in 2013, but 50 more animals.
In 2014, among others, whooper swans, the snapping turtle Snapper, the crested fireback, and Chinese bamboo partridges joined the collection. The latter still live “behind the scenes” and will only appear in the Tibetan enclosure in spring.
Tibetan pigs lead the fertility list (52 piglets), while banded mongooses came in second; within six months, their family grew from 2 individuals to 19. “We are particularly proud of another success in breeding red pandas, which gave birth to two young in 2014,” say Nasze Zoo employees.
Last year, our animals ate, among other things, 36 tonnes of hay, 9 tonnes of fruit and vegetables, and 3 tonnes of fish and meat.
