Even before Advent began, from 24 to 28 November, arts and crafts workshops for adults were held. A group of 40 participants from Poland and the Czech Republic created stained-glass lanterns, ceramic Christmas tableware and nativity scenes, wooden angels and birds, as well as wire bowls, baskets, serving dishes and candlesticks.
The works created will be available to see during the Jeleniogóralski Christmas Fair, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 13 and 14 December, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., in the rooms of Jeleniogórskie Centrum Kultury at 60 1 Maja Street.
Exhibitors from Poland and the Czech Republic will participate in the fair, offering items handmade by artists and craftspeople, glass stars, angels made from a variety of materials, gingerbread houses, Christmas decorations, toys, linen napkins and clothes. All these beautiful things, perfect as gifts or for decorating the home, will make Christmas even more festive.
In addition to more durable works of art, visitors will also be able to buy culinary works of art—delicious Christmas Eve treats are to be expected! The fair will also feature musical performances—we will hear, among others, the Rudawianie band and the Głosowanie choir.
JCK also invites visitors to admire a forest of Christmas trees made with the participation of children from Jelenia Góra schools and preschools.
The fair will be accompanied by demonstrations of arts and crafts presented by Polish and Czech craftspeople. Visitors will be able to watch wire vessels, animals and sculptures being made, learn about hand-assembling jewellery, and see wool being spun and woven. Those interested will also be able to try their hand at making something themselves.
The Saturday finale of the fair will be a raku ceramics firing. This is an old and highly spectacular technique. Glazed objects are placed in a heated kiln and then—red-hot—removed and put into a container filled with sawdust. Fire, smoke and a touch of magic—for example, glaze that would be green if fired using an ordinary method becomes copper-gold after raku firing.
Three concerts are being held—on 1 December at 7:00 p.m., the UQ Band played at Club Kwadrat in JCK at 28/30 Bankowa Street, on 11 December, also at 7:00 p.m., Swing Sextet will perform at the same venue, and on 15 December, Marta a Rasputin Band will perform at a Christmas wafer meeting for Sudetes mountain guides.
The pre-Christmas period is a good time to meet with friends and acquaintances, get into the Christmas spirit, listen to carols and pastorals, pause for a moment, and bring joy to yourself and your loved ones.
All residents of Jelenia Góra and tourists are warmly invited!
