Bolesławieckie Towarzystwo Siatkarskie Elektros players gave themselves and their supporters a wonderful Christmas gift. For the first time in history, the Bolesławiec team defeated one of the strongest teams in the Lower Silesian Men’s Third League in league competition: MUKS Ikar Legnica.
Our team displayed truly good volleyball. Legnica lost to the hosts 1–3 (17–25, 25–19, 19–25, 22–25). The Bolesławiec team is coached by Krzysztof Mosiądz.
The match was enhanced by a hip-hop dance performance by the Canon group from Bolesławiecki Ośrodek Kultury-Międzynarodowe Centrum Ceramiki. The group’s instructor is Krystyna Abramowicz.
Jacek Łuczkowski, president of Bolesławieckie Towarzystwo Siatkarskie:
This is an incredibly uplifting victory. We simply deserved it. In the last match in Bolesławiec, still in the Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Zawodowych hall, Ikar had a great deal of luck.
There is enormous potential in our team. When we lost, it was not because we were the weaker team. The reason lay in the players’ mentality. This is a team that should be fighting for promotion to the second league. Everyone had already started making fun of us, saying that we had no chance. Meanwhile, it turns out that it is possible: you have to want it and fight until the end. And do it with passion.
Krzysztof Mosiądz, coach and vice-president of BTS:
There is full mobilization before every match, but we mobilized even more before this one. We wanted to prove to ourselves and others that we could beat Legnica. After those discouraging defeats, we started believing in our abilities.
Our game looked very good; there were a few mistakes, and we had a lull in the second set. But we proved that we can play volleyball and beat strong teams. Last season, we lost to Legnica twice. In the first match against the Legnica team this season, we were leading 2–0 and still suffered defeat. That is why this match was so important to us. I hope the team has now broken through and that we will play better from match to match.
Tomasz Włoszczyński, captain of the Bolesławiec team:
We entered today’s match with great momentum. From the beginning of the first set to the end, we imposed our style of play; we had one lull in the second set. But we approached the match with the attitude: we do not have to, we can. Some of the pressure came off us. We knew that Ikar was a strong team, but we were also aware that we could beat them.
We showed truly good volleyball, in our own style. We gave ourselves a great Christmas gift.
