The second edition of the “EU Without Secrets” competition took place in the hall of the District Centre for Education and Staff Training. Friday’s competition was won by two students from Bolesławiec secondary schools. Ewelina Pawlus from I LO and Joanna Latawiec from II LO scored the most points and won a three-day trip to the European Parliament.

“The questions were quite difficult, more difficult than last year,” both winners agree. According to the girls, the way to win the competition is systematic learning. “Knowledge can be accumulated; you just have to expand it systematically,” says Ewelina. “Every such competition is a new experience, new knowledge and information. We do not focus on winning, and when we succeed, we are very happy,” Joanna adds. Asked how they would behave if a European referendum were held now, both answered that they would vote for Poland joining the European structures.

Thirty students took part in the district-level competition on knowledge of the European Union. The competition consisted of two parts: written and oral. They had half an hour to complete the test. The oral part began afterwards. This part of the competition took the form of a quiz. The questions were asked by Daniel Biernat, representing the Information Office of Member of the European Parliament Lidia Geringer de Oedenberg, the founder of the prizes and honorary patron of the competition. “We prepared books, newspapers, brochures and CDs containing information about the European Union for each participant. The five finalists also received posters and other gadgets related to European topics,” says Daniel Biernat.
