After the carriageway heading towards the city centre is closed to traffic, work will continue on installing kerbs, inspection chambers and other elements. Work related to the reconstruction of the water and sewage system is also nearing completion within the intersection. These are highly complex tasks requiring precision. The pipeline connections are being made while water is flowing under pressure. The deep excavations will be backfilled soon after this work is completed.
Meanwhile, paving blocks are being laid on the carriageway on Grabskiego Street, while kerbs are being installed and paving slabs laid. This work is very advanced, and it is already clear how much this section of the street is changing.
Thanks to the increase in budget funding this year, further work related to the stormwater drainage system in the Jaworzyńska area near the western bypass will begin. This drainage system will discharge water into the Kaczawa. Residents of buildings managed by housing communities will also benefit: rainwater from these buildings, which currently enters the system, will no longer damage their foundations.
As a reminder, work on one of the city’s most important road investments began at the end of March with demolition work on Grabskiego Street. In April, road workers moved onto the intersection of Jaworzyńska, Muzealna, Skarbka and Gwarna streets. Work on this section has already been completed.
On Grabskiego Street, the work began with the removal of shrubs and trees that obstructed the investment. The next stage was the demolition of 13 old utility buildings, such as barns and workshops. The city had previously purchased 11 of them from private owners. The sewer system was also replaced. The reconstructed section of Grabskiego Street, from Wojska Polskiego Street, will have two carriageways paved with blocks, similarly to the entire earlier section of this street, which lies within the historic preservation zone. The investment on Grabskiego is the next stage in the construction of the southern collector road, carried out as part of the reconstruction of Jaworzyńska Street. Work on this section should be completed by 22 December this year.
