Visitors toured the first and third floors and the gym facilities, enjoyed an attractive artistic programme, saw a presentation of activities carried out במסגרת the project and heard thanks addressed to all the people and institutions supporting its implementation. Finally, an agreement on further cooperation was signed between the Janusz Korczak Youth Sociotherapy Centre in Zgorzelec and Stiftung Diakonie-Sozialwerk Lausitz Janusz-Korczak-Heim Görlitz. All this took place on Monday at the sociotherapy centre in Zgorzelec.

At the invitation of county governor Artur Bieliński and the facility’s director Ireneusz Stec, many guests attended the official summary of the project “Renovation of dormitory premises for the needs of the Janusz Korczak Youth Sociotherapy Centre in Zgorzelec – stages I and II”. They included representatives of the project partners, the marshal’s office, local governments, educational institutions, uniformed services, the court, the prosecutor’s office, the contractor, and even a member of the Saxon Landtag.

It was emphasised that the investment work, equipment purchases and so-called soft activities, such as film-and-photography or culinary workshops, brought many benefits to the children and young people. Residents can now not only live in comfortable conditions, but also look after their health and fitness, develop creatively, integrate with their neighbours across the Nysa, overcome barriers and challenge stereotypes. Most importantly, as demonstrated by the agreement that was signed, the completion of the project is not the end but the beginning of cooperation between the Polish and German facilities, which share the same patron.

The project “Renovation of dormitory premises for the needs of the Youth Sociotherapy Centre in Zgorzelec – stages I and II” was co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund: “Investing in your future”, under the Poland–Saxony 2007–2013 Operational Programme of Cross-Border Cooperation.
