During Tuesday’s press conference, the future of Bolesławiec was discussed in the context of the upcoming local elections. As an alternative to the current Mayor of Bolesławiec, Piotr Roman, the Electoral Committee of Voters of the Bolesławiec County Local Government Platform and the Coalition Electoral Committee of the Democratic Left Alliance Left Together presented a joint candidate for the position of Mayor of Bolesławiec. He is Piotr Żak.

The candidate for mayor drew attention to the problem of Bolesławiec’s depopulation. He stated that he had ideas for developing the city and that he “wants to bring people together, not divide them.” Piotr Żak also addressed the other candidates for mayor with a proposal for a debate during which everyone could present their ideas for the development of Bolesławiec. In the candidate’s opinion, such a debate could be organized by the local television station.

Karol Stasik of Civic Platform said that since the 1990s, local taxes in the city had quadrupled and that, to avoid this, people were moving to towns near Bolesławiec. Meanwhile, Stanisław Chwojnicki of SLD pointed out that the joint candidate did not belong to any political party. In addition, he had many years of experience working in local government, which would enable him to perform the function efficiently.
