The driver switched off the tachograph in this way, so it did not record his activity. He explained that he only wanted to drive 40 km like that—from the base to the border in Zgorzelec. It was the only way to reach the Swiss border within 10 hours, the permitted extended daily driving time.
If he had not switched off the tachograph, he would have had to take his daily rest break elsewhere, before the Swiss border.
He may now face a fine of up to PLN 2,000, while his employer may be fined at least PLN 5,000.
