– These suits are urgently needed and will be used exclusively in emergency situations involving a high risk of infection. This applies to all infectious diseases. We are talking not only about Ebola, but also about other types of hemorrhagic fever and influenza viruses, such as AH1N1. In exceptional situations, the biological protection suits we receive may also be made available to medical institutions that have not managed to obtain this type of clothing when a high risk of infection occurs – says Janina Szelągowska, director of the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Lubin.
Each suit consists of six protective items: a mask, face shield, coverall, apron, gloves and boots. It is intended to protect against infection during direct contact with a sick person.
– As I have said many times, the safety of the residents of Lubin County is my top priority. In view of the threats posed by infection with, for example, hemorrhagic fever, we need to respond quickly and do everything possible to protect residents from potential illness; hence the decision to equip the sanitary inspection in Lubin with this type of clothing – says Adam Myrda, head of Lubin County.
The county will provide a total of eight such suits, which will protect both employees of the sanitary inspection in Lubin and staff of other medical services facing a high risk of infection.
