– This is good news not only for hotel owners, but above all for the economy and promotion of the city. The best form of promoting a city is to encourage people to visit for the first time and then provide them with proper service. And we managed to achieve that through a joint effort – the mayor added.

The receptions of most hotels were saying more or less the same thing: – We have no vacancies left, because... – and then came the details: due to the Antiques and Curiosities Fair, the Karkonosze Open Dance Tournament or the University of Economics Alumni Reunion, the hotel essentially had no vacant rooms.

Of course, September itself is a good month for tourism, for which Jelenia Góra is the base. But even the Europa Hotel has absolutely full occupancy during the Antiques Fair, and in addition, guests taking part in the Fair book their rooms... a year in advance. Many rooms for the last weekend of September 2015 at the Europa Hotel have already been reserved. Similarly, the Mercure Hotel had 100% occupancy because of the three aforementioned events.

Last weekend, the standard of accommodation was not even particularly important – from private, not inexpensive guesthouses, to hostels, which are generally occupied by construction workers, and including “star-rated” hotels – there were guests in every establishment.

– This is a positive phenomenon that we must turn into a trend together – said Marcin Zawiła. – But there are other aspects to this opportunity, because I met many people who emphasized that for some time now the Fair in Jelenia Góra has been becoming the best event of its kind in Poland, for several reasons. The most famous one, the St. Dominic’s Fair in Gdańsk, is gradually turning into a folk-art fair, with too many food stalls and too few selling antiques. A similar event in Bytom, which is very popular, is nevertheless organized “in the open field.” The Jelenia Góra Fair, on the other hand, has its own atmosphere because it takes place in the center of the Old Town. In addition – as everyone emphasized – the organization and service at our Fair are exemplary, because both ODK, which prepares the event, and the Municipal Police, which maintains order, operate with complete professionalism and great kindness, effectively and competently resolving any problems if they arise. The Dance Tournament is becoming one of the three or four most prestigious in Poland, both in sporting and organizational terms, and the Kurzak and Zamorski families are masters in this regard. The University of Economics has been our calling card for decades, and its graduates are ambassadors for our causes in their workplaces and places of residence. We must turn this into complete success together, and I offer my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all those who worked so diligently last weekend to increase Jelenia Góra’s popularity.
