This was the seventh debate this year as part of the consultation series “Closer to the Residents of Legnica and Their Concerns”. The president was accompanied by his deputies, a group of councillors, directors of departments of the Municipal Office, ZGM and ZDM, as well as representatives of the police and Municipal Police. The president of the “Piekary” Housing Cooperative was also present, together with his deputies.

During last year’s meeting in this part of the city, residents submitted their demands and requests. The president discussed the progress of their implementation. Among other things, the pavement by the bus terminus on Iwaszkiewicza Street was renovated. The crowns of trees obscuring the street lamp on Śląska Street were trimmed. Crash barriers at Rondo Niepodległości will be installed during the reconstruction of this section of Piłsudskiego Avenue, planned for 2015.

At such meetings, the president discusses budget implementation. This year, investment funds increased to nearly PLN 60 million, more than half of which was allocated to road projects (20 tasks). The reconstruction of Jaworzyńska Street is currently under way. Work is continuing at its junction with Grabskiego Street. Meanwhile, work has been completed on the section from Szkolna Street to the junction of Jaworzyńska, Muzealna and Skarbka streets. The reconstruction of the carriageways of Witelona and Skarbka streets was recently completed. The project was expanded to include the construction of pavements, which is nearing completion.

A car park and access roads were built around Klubowa Street. The first stage of the reconstruction of Orła Białego Avenue in the City Park has been completed. The next stage will begin in October. Road projects on Moniuszki, Galaktyczna and Plutona streets are well advanced. An integrated traffic and public transport management system is being built. Other important projects include the next stage of the renovation of the Knights’ Academy and the modernisation of the Electrical and Mechanical Schools Complex. The city has already spent more than PLN 40 million of its own funds on restoring the former splendour of the Knights’ Academy. State assistance was limited. Work is currently under way in the beautiful Royal Hall. Its restoration will cost almost PLN 5 million. In turn, after renovation, the ZSE-M building, located in the city centre, will once again be an architectural gem. The work will be completed later this year.

A mini-zoo with ornamental birds was recently opened on the palm-house grounds, delighting not only the youngest residents, among beautiful thematic gardens. Someone asked why there were no dinosaurs in the park, as in Lubin. “The City Park is entered in the register of historic monuments, and no dinosaur can be placed there,” the president explained.

In the next part of the meeting, Tadeusz Krzakowski announced the launch of the second edition of the Legnica Civic Budget. Each participant received information materials about the LCB. Let us recall that, by voting in the previous edition of the LCB, residents of this area selected two projects for implementation: thermal modernisation of section A of General Secondary School Complex No. 3 on Mazowiecka Street, and the construction of a playground and recreation area at Primary School No. 20. Both projects have been completed.

Residents pointed out that people drinking alcohol gather at the recreation area created as part of the LCB and hold drinking parties there. The police and Municipal Police will patrol the area more frequently to put an end to this practice. In the future, a park may be created here, as many residents would like.

The meeting also covered planned renovations of further major city routes, including Piłsudskiego Avenue and Sikorskiego and Iwaszkiewicza streets. Last year, Pomorska Street in Piekary was reconstructed. In the near future, road works will cover further roads within the housing estates.
