The ribbon was cut by Senator of the Republic of Poland Jan Michalski, Zgorzelec Gmina Head Kazimierz Janik together with his deputy Piotr Machaj and Zgorzelec County Head Artur Bieliński. This marked the completion of the third stage of one of the region’s largest tourism investments, co-financed by European Union funds.
The “Adventure with the Nysa” project is a joint investment by many partners. Its culmination was the construction of a modern Recreation and Tourism Centre, which includes:
- tourist equipment rental (kayaks, inflatable boats, bicycles)
- medical assistance point
- tourist information
- a place to rest and recharge
- a covered stage with an audience area.
The facility was created in a modernised building that once housed the border guard headquarters. Now, instead of a border, it is a base for excursions and a meeting place for people who love active recreation in nature.
Moreover, numerous concerts and outdoor events will be held at the facility. The stage and audience area proved their worth during the opening, quite literally in song. The evening’s star, the band Wolna Grupa Bukowina, performed its greatest hits there, giving several encores to the applause of the audience.
Alongside the concert, the event organisers (the Municipal Cultural Centre and the Zgorzelec Gmina Office) prepared numerous skill-based competitions for participants, such as carrying a kayak against the clock or inflating a bicycle tyre. Attractive prizes awaited the winners, including a bicycle, cycling accessories and a waterproof backpack. Everyone could also receive detailed maps of the kayaking route and recreational trails, as well as brochures and leaflets presenting the tourist attractions of Zgorzelec Gmina.
The project was co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Programme of Cross-Border Cooperation Poland–Saxony for 2007–2013. Details on the Gmina Zgorzelec website.
