This was the sixth debate this year as part of the “Closer to Legnica’s Residents and Their Affairs” consultation series. The president was accompanied by his deputies, a group of councillors, directors of departments of the Municipal Office, ZGM and ZDM, as well as representatives of the police and Municipal Police.

During last year’s meeting at the same location, residents submitted their demands and requests. The president presented the status of their implementation. Among other things, the leaking roofs of buildings on Kartuska and Daszyńskiego Streets were secured. The sewers on Kartuska Street were cleared. Hazardous trees on Kościelna and Kartuska Streets were cut down.

Tadeusz Krzakowski, as at other meetings, discussed the implementation of last year’s and this year’s budgets, especially the investment budget. “This year, funds allocated for investments will rise to more than PLN 59 million, over 50 percent of which will be allocated to road projects (20 tasks),” the president stressed. “In 2013, we spent more than PLN 33 million on investments.”

The reconstruction of Jaworzyńska Street is currently under way. Work is continuing at its intersection with Grabskiego Street. Meanwhile, work has been completed on the section from Szkolna Street to the intersection of Jaworzyńska, Muzealna and Skarbka Streets. Recently, reconstruction of the roadways on Witelona and Skarbka Streets was completed. A car park and roads were built around Klubowa Street. The first stage of the reconstruction of Orła Białego Avenue in Municipal Park has also been completed. The next stage will begin in October.

Road investments on Moniuszki, Galaktyczna and Plutona Streets are well advanced. An integrated traffic and public transport management system is being built. Other important projects include the next stage of the renovation of the Knights’ Academy and the modernisation of the building of the Electrical and Mechanical Schools Complex. The city has already spent more than PLN 40 million of its own funds on restoring the Knights’ Academy to its former splendour. State assistance was limited. Work is currently being carried out in the beautiful royal hall. Its restoration will cost nearly PLN 5 million. In turn, after renovation, the ZSE-M building in the city centre will once again be an architectural gem. The work will be completed later this year. On the very day of the consultation meeting, a mini-zoo opened in Municipal Park.

In the next part of the meeting, the president announced the launch of the second edition of the Legnica Civic Budget. Each participant received information materials concerning the LBO. Let us recall that, in the previous edition of the LBO, residents of this area chose three projects for implementation: the development of courtyard interiors in the area of Kazimierza Wielkiego, Wrocławska and Moniuszki Streets, and Holy Trinity Street. Playgrounds, pavements, a waste enclosure and a chessboard were built here at the Market Square.

District senior aspirant Mirosław Lebiedziejewski, discussing the state of security in this part of the city, highlighted the major assistance provided by the municipal monitoring system in combating crime. Thanks to it, among other things, people drinking alcohol in various places were removed.

President Tadeusz Krzakowski recalled that three tenement houses in this part of the city had recently been restored—on H. Pobożnego and B. Chrobrego Streets. Further buildings will be renovated in the coming years.

“We currently have 7,000 municipal flats,” the president said. “In total, arrears in these housing resources amount to PLN 50 million. That is a great deal. Rents are unable to cover renovation costs. The Municipal Housing Management contributes approximately PLN 4 million annually to renovations carried out by housing communities that include municipal flats.”

The meeting also covered planned renovations of further major city roads, including Piłsudskiego Avenue and Nowodworska Street, among others. The future of the site of the former Legnica airport was also discussed.

Participants submitted their requests and demands. All of them will be carefully considered and implemented wherever possible.

The next consultation meeting of the President of Legnica, this time with residents of the Piekary and Piekary Wielkie housing estates, will take place on September 23 at 5:00 p.m. at the Integrated Schools Complex at 1 Wierzyńskiego Street.
