BKS Bobrzanie Bolesławiec faced a difficult task, as KS Polkowice had made an excellent start to the season, winning all three of their matches. Bearing in mind our players’ poor performance in Zgorzelec, there were doubts as to whether we would cope with the higher-ranked opponents. Although the final result was not favourable to us, we can be proud of the entire team’s performance, because BKS were the better side on the day.
From the beginning, both teams launched lively attacks. In the 3rd minute, KS Polkowice threatened our goal, but fortunately the shot from outside the penalty area flew over the goal defended by Łokaj. In the 4th minute, BKS could have made it 1–0. Dzięgleski raced forward down the left and, with a fine pass inside Polkowice’s penalty area, set up Kosior. Unfortunately, the BKS midfielder, alone in the penalty area, shot too weakly and straight at the goalkeeper. In the 9th minute, the visitors took a 1–0 lead. A Polkowice midfielder decided to shoot from the left side of the pitch. Unfortunately for us, it turned out to be the shot of his life, one he will probably never reproduce in his career. The ball, which also bounced off the post, found its way into our net, and we had to make up the deficit from the very beginning of the match. Fortunately, conceding the goal did not demobilise our team, and we continued to play our own game, repeatedly causing problems for the visitors’ defenders. In the 19th minute, following Kraśnicki’s cross, Bochnia came close to scoring, but his header went wide of the visitors’ goal. Just before half-time, Ohagwu produced a fine shot, but once again the ball went just wide of the visitors’ goal.
In the second half, BKS continued to control the game, while KS Polkowice, sitting deep in defence, began making numerous mistakes. In the 57th minute, following a well-worked free kick, we could have equalised, but we lacked precision in the opponents’ penalty area. In the 65th minute, Kosior tried a shot from outside the penalty area, but once again it was too weak. Two minutes later, a Polkowice player was shown a red card, and it seemed that BKS’s improved performance would finally be rewarded with an equaliser. In the 78th minute, it should have been 1–1. A visiting defender handled the ball in the penalty area, leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot and award BKS a penalty. Unfortunately, Dzięgleski’s shot flew high over the goal, and we were left to rue the missed opportunity. Losing such a great chance did not break our spirit, but we were unable to score before the final whistle, and the match ended 0–1 to KS Polkowice.
Despite the defeat, we should be pleased with our boys’ performance. BKS were the better team, and all that was missing was the finishing touch in the form of an equaliser so that we could leave the pitch for the dressing room in better spirits. The leaders from Polkowice did not dominate our team; for long stretches of the match, thanks to our players’ performance, they were forced into desperate defence of their own goal. Let us hope that after Wednesday’s cup match in Pieńsk we will be in better spirits, and that in a week’s time BKS will face another difficult test in Szczedrzykowice against the local Orkan.
