Bolesław Kubik was the first post-war mayor of Bolesławiec. He was born in 1918 in Strachowice. He was a member of the Polish Socialist Party. On July 21, 1945, a tragic accident occurred in the village of Tylinów (the post-war name of Bolesławice): a mine exploded. The mayor and officials were helping with the harvest, which Polish settlers were afraid to begin because they feared robberies and rapes. As a result of his injuries, he died on July 22.

He was buried in the cemetery on Lubańska Street, and later his remains were transferred to the Avenue of the Honored at the Municipal Cemetery. Residents believed that the attack had been carried out by the German underground, which operated in the area after the end of World War II.

The memory of the first post-war mayor of Bolesławiec was preserved by naming a street in the city center after him.
