The County Polish Language Competition for Fourth-Grade Pupils, “Be Polite to Everyone, and Warm-Hearted to Those Close to You,” reactivated after a three-year break, combines Polish-language education and character-building content. Its main aim is to interest pupils in the Polish language—in everything this subject encompasses (beautiful Polish, Polish literature). Fourth-grade children begin a genuine encounter with it.
The school stage was relatively easy. A record number of pupils—108—qualified for the county stage.
What did the competition participants grapple with? They wrote about interpersonal relationships (How do you understand the proverb Agreement builds, disagreement destroys?; “To treat the world from on high” means that …), and about their own personal culture. They demonstrated their skills by writing a letter to their grandparents and an invitation, describing an illustration, and composing a short story. The basis was poetry for children—Brzechwa’s poems (“At the Market Stall,” “The Hen”).
The first prize was awarded to Zofia Kołodziej. Wiktor Nowak came second (both are from Primary School No. 4 in Bolesławiec). Third place, ex aequo, went to Joanna Ośko (PSP Oxpress) and Maja Majka (Primary School No. 5). Honorable mentions went to: Igor Marcinkiewicz (PSP ZP), Jakub Naglik (PSP ZP), Antoni Łasica (Primary School No. 4), Eliza Zięba (Primary School No. 4), Krzysztof Ostrowski (Primary School in Kruszyn), Katarzyna Czerwińska (Primary School No. 2), Karolina Grabas (Primary School No. 4), Marta Kozłowska (Primary School No. 4), Amelia Modzelewska (Primary School No. 4), Aleksandra Gortych (Primary School in Brzeźnik), Emilia Orzechowska (Primary School in Osiecznica), Karolina Makowska (Primary School No. 1), Oskar Ciochoń (Primary School No. 4), Hanna Krukar (Primary School No. 5), Estera Zamojska (Primary School in Ocice), Dawid Wiliczkowski (Primary School in Brzeźnik) and Joanna Urbańska (Primary School in Żeliszów).
The organizers (Powiatowe Centrum Edukacji i Kształcenia Kadr) thank Ms. Ewa Słocińska, headteacher of Primary School No. 4, thanks to whom three competitions could be held in April—tournaments for third-grade and fourth-to-sixth-grade classes, as well as the competition for fourth-grade classes.
