“The revitalisation of the water reservoir will restore a small retention facility that will improve the city’s hydrological and flood-protection situation,” says Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman. It is worth recalling that this investment will create a recreational and leisure complex that will provide a place for relaxation while also regulating water management in Bolesławiec. Before the war, the reservoir was used for recreation (the so-called Forest Castle, “Waldschloss”). It also served as a retention reservoir collecting water from a forest stream (“Złoty Potok”) and regulated the hydrological management of the forest complex. During World War II, the facility was partially destroyed and was used by the military until the end of the 1970s.

The project “Reconstruction of the retention reservoir in the former military area on Jeleniogórska Street in Bolesławiec” includes restoring a water reservoir divided into a swimming section and plant filters (water filtered through a plant-based biosystem, without the use of chemicals).

The site development will include, in addition to the pools, technical, changing-room and sanitary, and catering facilities, pedestrian and vehicle routes, a playground, beach-volleyball courts, tennis courts with artificial-turf surfaces, a fishing jetty, site fencing, lighting, and a car park with at least 60 parking spaces.
