Krzysztof Tylutki, a first-year student at the Mechatronics Technical School within the Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych in Bolesławiec, proved to be the best in the provincial stage of the “Know Your Rights at Work” competition, organized by the District Labour Inspectorate in Wrocław. The winner advanced to the national stage, which will take place in April in Warsaw. – The chair of the competition committee was full of admiration for the knowledge Krzysztof had acquired – says Jan Russ, a teacher at ZSM and the form tutor of the first-year TM class. – Our student was just six points short of the maximum score available on the test.
Krzysztof studied the Labour Code and regulations concerning occupational health and safety. So effectively that, as he himself admits, none of the test questions was able to surprise him. – This knowledge will certainly be useful when I take my first job – says the “mechanik” student. – It will definitely pay off in the future – adds Adam Maksymczyk, the school principal.
It is worth emphasizing that the school offers extracurricular classes on safety culture. A labour inspector from Jelenia Góra also visited the school and gave a lecture lasting several hours on this subject.
Last October, we reported that the results of the first stage of the “Technik Absolwent 2013” competition, organized by the Association of Polish Mechanical Engineers and Technicians, had been announced. The provincial stage was won by Grzegorz Słota, a former student of Bolesławiec’s Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych and currently a student at Wrocław University of Technology.
– Grzegorz Słota’s first prize in the competition for the best Technik Absolwent 2013 is a great personal achievement. It also confirms that our efforts and such strong support for vocational education make sense. For years we have continued to repeat: graduate from a good vocational school, acquire a profession sought by employers, and you will enter adult life more easily and successfully – said Dariusz Kwaśniewski at the time, then a member of the Bolesławiec County Board and now the Bolesławiec county head.
As it turned out, Grzegorz took third place in the national stage. The competition committee considered, among other things, grades from the school-leaving certificate as well as the results of the matura examination and examinations confirming vocational qualifications.
