On Thursday, January 23, we reported that an explosion had occurred in a property at 12 Prusa Street in Bolesławiec. A woman was injured when her clothing caught fire. While ablaze, she ran to the upper floor of the building, where an older man helped her and extinguished the flames. Unfortunately, he was injured in the process.

We wrote that preliminary information indicated there had been a problem transporting the injured man to hospital. For half an hour, firefighters were unable to contact the emergency medical service about sending a second ambulance. In the end, they transported the injured man to hospital themselves.

“One minute after the report, an ambulance was dispatched to the injured woman, who had suffered severe burns,” Adam Zdaniuk, director of the district hospital, told “ii.” The ZOZ has four ambulances at its disposal, and all of them were out on calls. The emergency medical team that arrived at the scene of the explosion determined that, in the case of the man who had rescued the burned woman, there was no threat to life (the injured man had burned hands).

The fourth ambulance was supposed to return to Prusa Street, but at that point the emergency service was called to a child experiencing breathing difficulties. “The dispatcher was right to send the ambulance there. I do not want to trivialize the matter, but our priority is saving lives. The man was treated at the scene. If his life had been in danger, the dispatcher would have sent an ambulance from a neighboring area,” the hospital director explains.

As Adam Zdaniuk told us, on January 23 there were as many emergency calls within eight hours as there are usually in an entire day. The director’s statement can be found on the website of the Bolesławiec ZOZ.
