During Friday's shooting exercises at the training ground in Świętoszów, heather and grass caught fire. Firefighters from the Rescue and Firefighting Unit in Bolesławiec and Volunteer Fire Departments from across the county arrived at the scene. Approximately one hundred hectares of heather and grass were burning. Strong winds were blowing, and the fire was spreading quickly.

The units were assigned to various sections, and the fire was fought from the road because unexploded ordnance was scattered across the training ground and exploded during the operation. Firefighting crews from JRG Bolesławiec, JRG Lubań, JRG Lwówek Śląski, JRG Złotoryja, JRG Żagań, Volunteer Fire Departments from Bolesławiec County and Lubusz Voivodeship—in total, approximately 200 people—participated in extinguishing the fire. The Lubusz Company also joined the operation, but was withdrawn once the fire had been brought under control. Also present at the scene were the Operational Group of the KW PSP from Wrocław, the Operational Group from the KP PSP in Bolesławiec with junior captains Jerzy Kieler and Piotr Pilarczyk, representatives of the Polish Armed Forces, and representatives of the State Forests.

After the fire was extinguished, the PSP and OSP units returned to their stations. Five hundred soldiers guarded the burned area overnight from Friday to Saturday, while three heavy military tracked tractors plowed the ground. As a result of the fire, one hectare of forest litter and 194 hectares of heather burned.
