To nie jedyny negatywny sygnał o zachowaniu żołnierzy US Army.

Nic takiego.

Podobnie o żołnierzach US Army wypowiada się właściciel Good Burger przy ul. Prusa.

O komentarz w tej sprawie poprosiliśmy rzecznika US Army, mjra Jona Allena (1 ABCT Public Affairs Officer):

[...] Blisko współpracujemy z polskimi organami ścigania w sprawie przypadków złego postępowania i podejmujemy działania dyscyplinarne wobec żołnierzy, którzy łamią polskie prawa i amerykańskie standardy wojskowe.

While remaining anonymous, one female reader commented:

Are the U.S. soldiers stationed in our area under any discipline by anyone? Their behavior in our town is appalling. The American youth (because they are clearly not quite adults – especially mentally) hangs out in the strip mall or its surroundings, and behaves disgracefully. They drink alcohol in the public areas, some seem under influence of illegal substances. They stagger around disturbing passersby. Sometimes vomit uncontrollably. It is simply awful to see.

Another reader described an incident, where he witnessed a soldier threw up at the front desk area of a local hotels. He nearly passed out from being drunk.

The recent news of the racist incident at Piwnica Paryska sparked other comments, including:

I went to (...) on Starzynski Street, but the soldiers gathered there were loud making it impossible to enjoy dinner with my family. A friend of mine who also heard an insult by one soldier: ‘(...) Joker is not for Polish people’

Pawel

[While having conversations] they scream on top of their lungs. One drunk soldier throws up right at the bar, another one stands and cries in the corner, everyone talks over each other. You can’t hear anything at all.

Bartosz

I saw drunk American soldiers throwing money bills at defenseless Polish girls shouting “I have money!!!”.

Marcin

I witnessed [American soldiers’ poor behavior] several times. I was appalled when a group of them was trying to start a fight with a couple in a restaurant having diner with their child.

Sabina

Meanwhile, the local restaurant owners contradict the negative comments.

One local pizzeria owner says, that the American soldiers behave politely and pose no problems to his customers.

These are young people. Some are underage in the United States [legal drinking age in America is 21, while in Poland is 18] but are legal to have drink here and enjoy their leisure time in our restaurant. Even after a couple of drinks the soldiers seem harmless and pose no provocation. We have had no serious incidents, aside from one argument between two groups of fellow-soldiers during tour change. Other than that, they are peaceful and unproblematic customers. Occasionally, we witness the Polish customers try to provoke an argument or a fight with the Americans, but the Americans understand the seriousness repercussions to committing any offense as off duty U.S. Army soldiers.

The Restaurant Dancing Zodiak business owner also speaks of positive behavior of the U.S. soldiers:

We've never had problems with them. They come, have a drink, enjoy their free time, pay and leave usually around midnight. They pose no problems, or instigate any fights during their stay in our restaurant.

Another local businessman, owner of a burger restaurant states, that he sees no problemsproblematic behavior coming from the stationed American troops invisiting our town.

They come to dine in our place on Fridays and weekend, but no fights or quarrels ever took place here.

We also spoke with employees of a Main Square restaurant about their experiences with off-duty American soldiers. They too confirmed their good behavior and incident-free visits to their establishment.

Based on the eyewitness reports from our readers and the contradicting statements by the local businessmen, we decided to reach out to U.S. Army for an official comment. The Public Affairs Officer Major Jon Allen sent us this statement:

The Soldiers of the United States Army are honored to be guests of the Polish people and train with the Polish Army. We hold our men and women to the highest standards of discipline and personal conduct. [...]  We work closely with Polish law enforcement to investigate incidents of wrongdoing and take disciplinary action for Soldiers who violate Polish laws and American military standards. We continue to enjoy our daily interactions with the Polish people and consider it a privilege to experience the Polish culture and heritage.
